  • Quan Yin is the Bodhisattva of compassion and also known as Kwan Yin, Guanyin and Avalokiteshvara stands on a lotus base with her robes flowing naturally over her body
  • In Buddhist tradition a bodhisattva is a soul who is fully realized and no longer needs to reincarnate, but chooses to do so in order to enlighten others
  • It is said that when Quan Yin was ascending into spirit, she heard the cries of suffering humans and chose to re-enter physical existence
  • She has a lovely siraschakra, or godly halo that perfectly frames her stunning face
  • She wears a headdress incorporating the Buddha Amitabha, the "Buddha of infinite light"
  • Quan Yin here holds the Ruyi ceremonial scepter, a talisman symbolizing power and good fortune
  • One translation of the term ruyi is "as you wish," and scepters in this shape are often given as gifts because of the good wishes they imply, they are also sometimes referred to as magical "wish sticks"
  • Quan Yin is depicted as a water or sea goddess, riding on waves often with a fish. This form is believe to bring protection to those who travel
  • Her child attendant Shan Tsai is resting on the lotus flower to her bottom right hand side the anjali mudra or namaste hand position
  • According to folklore Shan Tsai and Kwan Yin rescued a fish (who is the 3rd son of the dragon king) from being auctioned and eaten by villagers of a coastal town, because the fish had been caught but still was alive after some days and was discovered to have some magical power
  • Buddhist legend has it the fish cried out to Kuan Yin in its distress. Shan Tsai wanted to save the ill-fated creature and urged Quan Yin to come to it's rescue
  • In the howling of the wind, Kuan Yin projected her voice to the crowd, saying: ‘A life belongs to the one who tries to save it and not the one who tries to take it.’ Shamed by their action, the bidders dispersed and the fish was saved
  • From the delicate urna on her forehead to her introspective gaze, every detail embodies divine grace
  • Quan Yin is beautifully showcased, her face has a calming look of serenity and peace
